Ringed planets

Ringed planets

As an astronaut, most of your time is not spending observing the wonders of the universe, but pouring over datasets or mechanics in need of maintenance. Your spaceship does boast a window, but being the size of a grapefruit, it hardly offers the fantastic views imagined by every child dreaming of becoming a spaceman. But today will be a break in the monotony. Today, you will be the first (hu)man to set foot on Saturn II. The probes have revealed that there is indeed life on the tangerine planet, though it seems to be exclusively sedentary, plant-like creatures. Unlike the plants back home, however, these “plants” do not have the characteristic green color created by the presence of chlorophyll. Does this mean the plants of Saturn II do not receive their nourishment from their Sun, as ours do? If not, then what do they “eat”? As an astroecologist, it’s your job to ask and hopefully answer this question. 🍊🌟🚀
